  • ECOespiral is a Unique volunteer program as they work with environmental regeneration and integral human development in the rural communities in the Tecpan regions in Guatemala. Their mission is to improve the situations for people living in vulnerable conditions. ECOespiral have already achieved so much with the building of houses, schools and soon to be development centre, and undertaking 3 other major but exciting projects along side this.

They focus on nourishing inner peace to create external change and make a sustainable future for ourselves and society. They believe that change must come from within each one of us, and by using Creative-Education and Self-Development as their main tool, they promote a Culture of Peace with regenerative life-styles. Through Education Workshops, Water Conservation Programs and Self-Development activities, they are building skills, along with the Guatemalan communities, to create a more sustainable society, both economically, environmentally and socially.

Their history begins back in 2015, where Swedish Sofie and Sabina met their soulmate Marietta, from Guatemala. In this amazing and colourful country we started a beautiful adventure together, developing projects that promote more sustainable and regenerative life-styles, based on empathy and equality.

Our program is a community project and an opportunity for those that search for new ways of experiencing life. We see our program as an intercultural place to learn, teach and nurture our personal growth, working in harmony with each other and nature. When our volunteers leave Xenimajuyú, we want them to continue their daily lives with more sustainable life-styles and a greater focus on inner change.

ECOespiral is operating at the crossroad of human rights, the environment and integral development, working, learning and sharing together with the local communities while enjoying the guatemalan highlands, blue skies and a vibrant sun. We design a personalized experience according to each volunteer’s interest, skills and life passion. Our aim is to design a creative experience, where volunteers are involved as much as possible in our current and future projects, while having the freedom to develop your own projects, hand in hand with the ECOespiral team.

If you are up for more, you can also help Marietta taking care of the horses, go for a sunrise ride in the woods or just cuddle with the horses. We have also designed special activities for you to enjoy on your free time, while supporting the local economy, where you can learn about the traditional weaving techniques, share traditional recipes while cooking on open fire, learn the secrets of natural healing, camp in the cloudy forest, visit the Mayan Ruins…and much more! Ready?

  • ECOespiral’s projects are located in Xenimajuyú community in Tecpán, Guatemala. As a volunteer, you have the choice of living with one of the families in the community, for an authentic Guatemalan experience, or to stay with like-minded volunteers at their volunteer house “Casa San Vicente”, at the Farm Pasajinak. The area is surrounded by horses, cows and green fields, is right beside a natural reserve and a few miles away from Mayan Pyramids.

Casa San Vicente is a beautiful rustic house, surrounded by colorful flowers, native trees, a permaculture garden, and their faithful hound of dogs. Here, they have created a community space for those who are searching for new way of experiencing life. Casa San Vicente is a inter-cultural center to learn and teach about inner transformation and reflect on inner change in their daily lifes and actions.

They offer you private and shared rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, working space and three vegetarian meals per day. When not working, you have the opportunity to spend time in the horse stable, learn about permaculture, explore ancient Mayan knowledge, as well as learn how to make Mayan handcraft and food.

  • Volunteer fees are used to cover expenses, maintain the organization and work, and support the local economy.

Volunteer info

ECOespiral is very different from other volunteering programs for two reasons. The first one is that we develop our projects together with the local communities, which enables our volunteers to live, brief and connect with the Mayan Culture. We are one unit together with the communities, which means that we live, work and socialize together. This is how we achieve success collectively.

Secondly, we believe that people thrive when they do what they love, which is why we are offering our volunteers a very personalized experience. We will always meet up with our volunteers before going to Xenimajuyú, physically or virtually, to ensure that we can find interesting assignments corresponding to each individual. We do our best to make each volunteer experience memorable and influential, for the volunteer, the community and the environment.
